Why Matter works across ecosystems
Matter is a smart home standard designed for cross-platform interoperability. Unlike older protocols where devices were often tied to a single ecosystem, Matter devices can work with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings at the same time, where each platform supports the device type.
This means you can control your Matter smart lock from Apple Home on your iPhone, then ask Alexa to check if it's locked, and set up an automation in Google Home — all with the same device. You don't have to choose just one ecosystem.
How multi-admin works
Matter supports multi-admin pairing, which lets you add a single device to multiple ecosystems at once. During setup, you pair the device with your primary controller (like a HomePod or Echo), then open the sharing window to add it to additional platforms.
Not every platform supports every Matter device type yet, and some makers also join separate "Works with" programs. Use the ecosystem pages above to find devices listed for your setup; each product page says which of its platforms the maker’s own page names and which are listed in its catalog record only, unverified.
