Answer
How many Matter smart home devices are CSA certified, and what do they need?
As of October 24, 2026, MatterCatalog lists 689 Matter smart home devices sold in the US with a verified store link that are CSA certified for the exact model (the certificate names that model, not a family or a variant): 490 use Wi-Fi, 145 use Thread, 9 list both Thread and Wi-Fi, 22 list a wired Ethernet connection and 23 do not state a network. A Thread product also needs a Thread border router; a Wi-Fi product needs only your platform’s Matter controller. This guide picks the ones that plug into an outlet, go into an existing fixture or run on batteries or USB power, so setting them up involves no electrical work.
Our top CSA-certified picks are the Tapo P125M (plug-in, Wi-Fi), the Eve Energy Smart Plug (US/CA) (plug-in, Thread), the Linkind Matter Smart Filament Bulb (bulb, Wi-Fi), the Nanoleaf Essentials A19 (bulb, Thread) and the Shelly Flood Gen4 (battery, Wi-Fi); the Thread picks also need a Thread border router.

Before you buy
Requires a compatible Matter controller for your chosen Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home or SmartThings setup and a Thread border router. Bluetooth is used for setup. Energy history and schedules depend on the app and platform; do not assume every Matter controller exposes them. Check Eve’s current platform guidance.

A compatible Matter controller and Thread border router are required. An Aqara-branded hub is not a universal requirement. Check the mounting gap and the operating environment in the manual. Use the specified CR123A battery. Open/closed detection does not establish that a door is locked or a room is occupied. Do not assume weatherproof outdoor or mailbox use.
A compatible Matter setup. Matter uses Wi-Fi; Zigbee requires switching firmware modes. Place the cable where water can reach it. The manufacturer specifies a five-second cable check interval; Economic mode disables the buzzer. IP44 does not mean submersible. A leak alert does not shut off water by itself. Choose a separate supported temperature sensor if you need freeze monitoring.
A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and your platform’s Matter controller requirements. A Thread border router is not needed for this Wi-Fi sensor. Indoor placement with continuous power. The Meross store kit lists a power adapter and 1.5 m cable; select the US/CA version for that region. Check Amazon’s included accessories separately. Radar sensing is not a guarantee against missed or unwanted detections. Placement, sensitivity and platform automation support matter; do not treat this as a safety or security system.
Check your lease before changing wired fixtures, and use a qualified electrician where the instructions call for one.
