Four paths to check
A Matter controller manages devices in your chosen platform. A Thread border router connects Thread to your home network. A Matter bridge shares supported accessories. One device can perform several roles.

Bridge for supported Hue lights
Philips Hue Bridge
The reviewed US offer is the standard white square Bridge. It connects by Ethernet and shares supported paired Hue lights with Matter. It is distinct from Bridge Pro and the older round bridge.
Requires a router Ethernet port, power and Hue app setup. This Bridge is not a Thread border router or a general-purpose Matter controller. Check the Bridge you already own before buying another.

Driver for compatible integrated IKEA lighting

EU article 506.094.44 powers compatible integrated lighting: up to eight lighting units within 30 W combined. It takes 220–240 V input and supplies 24 V output. Its job is to power and dim lighting; controller and Thread border-router roles are still needed for phone control.
FÖRNIMMA power cord and remote are sold separately. Follow the exact regional assembly instructions. The North American E2513 retail requirements remain unverified.

Before you choose
Do I need a branded hub for every Matter bulb?
No. Supported Matter-over-Thread bulbs can connect through a compatible Matter controller and Thread border router. That is a different path from pairing older Zigbee lights to a bridge. Verify the exact bulb, controller and platform instructions.
Are all IKEA lights Thread devices?
No. Older TRÅDFRI Zigbee lighting and newer Matter-over-Thread products are distinct generations. IKEA documents DIRIGERA as a bridge for supported older devices and as a Matter controller with Thread border-router functionality.
Do all Philips Hue lights need a Hue Bridge for Matter?
No. Hue now documents a direct Thread path for specifically supported Matter-enabled bulbs. Look for the Matter marking and the exact product’s instructions. An ordinary Bluetooth-only setup does not provide Matter, and an existing Hue bulb should not be assumed to gain Thread support.
Will Matter expose every lighting feature?
No. Check the controls supported by your chosen platform. Hue lists its Play HDMI sync box and the Tap dial switch’s dial function as exceptions to Matter support. Manufacturer-app scenes and entertainment features are separate from the controls exposed through Matter.
Which setup costs less?
Compare the exact local bulb or kit, plus any missing bridge, controller, border router and accessories. A bulb-only price and a complete system price are different totals. This guide does not claim a brand-wide price advantage.
