Short answer
How do I reset Leviton Decora Smart Matter devices?
To reset a Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi dimmer, switch or fan controller, hold the top of the rocker for a total of 14 seconds: the status light turns amber after 7 seconds and flashes red and amber at 14, then release. A plug-in or outlet resets the same way with its button. Remove the device from the My Leviton app first.(Leviton: factory default)

Before you reset a Leviton device
- Find the Matter setup code (printed on the device or its box, or in the maker’s app) and keep a photo of it: after a reset it is the way back in.(TP-Link: setup tips; Home Assistant: Matter)
- Remove the device from the apps that hold it. On an iPhone, Settings, General, Matter Accessories lists what is paired and lets you remove it; in Google Home, open the device’s settings and remove it. Google adds that a device you no longer use should be factory reset after you remove it.(Apple: Matter accessories; Google: Matter devices)
- Then reset it with the maker’s steps on this page, and add it again as a new device.(Google: Matter devices)

Steps: return a Decora Smart Wi-Fi device to factory default
A factory default removes all Wi-Fi information, app setup, schedules and configuration. Leviton’s page is written for Decora Smart Wi-Fi devices in general and does not mention Matter by name.(Leviton: factory default)
- Dimmer, switch or fan controller (not the DWVAA): hold the top of the rocker for a total of 14 seconds. After the first 7 seconds the status light turns amber; keep holding. At 14 seconds it quickly flashes red and amber. Release the rocker and it resets.(Leviton: factory default)
- Plug-in or outlet: hold the button for a total of 14 seconds, amber after 7, then red and amber at 14. Release and it resets.(Leviton: factory default)
- 4-button controller: hold the top button for 14 seconds (the bottom LED turns amber after 7 and flashes red and amber at 14), then release.(Leviton: factory default)
- DWVAA: two sequences in order. First hold the ON and OFF buttons together for 7 seconds and release when the status light flashes green; then hold the ON button for 7 seconds until the light flashes red and amber, and release.(Leviton: factory default)
Which Decora Smart devices have Matter
Matter arrives on Decora Smart Wi-Fi 2nd Gen devices by a firmware update, in phases: Leviton names the D26HD dimmer, D215S switch, D215P mini plug-in switch and D23LP mini plug-in dimmer. Leviton says its 1st generation Decora Smart Wi-Fi and HomeKit devices will not get Matter updates. It lists Matter as available for Apple, Amazon, Google and SmartThings.(Leviton: Matter support)
Updating a device that was in Apple Home through HomeKit removes that HomeKit connection; add it again with its Matter pairing code, not the old HomeKit code.(Leviton: Apple Home)
Add it to Apple Home again with the Matter code
- Put the device in pairing mode: press and hold the top of the rocker or the button for 7 seconds until the LED turns amber, release, and wait for the LED to flash green.(Leviton: Apple Home)
- In the My Leviton app select the device, then Device Settings, then Matter Pairing Code, and save the QR code to Photos.(Leviton: Apple Home)
- In Photos, press and hold the middle of the QR code until Open in Home appears, tap it, and choose to add the device to Apple Home. Apple Home control needs a home hub such as a HomePod or Apple TV.(Leviton: Apple Home)

Orbi routers: turn IPv6 on, then reset and pair again
Matter needs IPv6, and Orbi routers ship with it off. Leviton’s steps: log in to the router, choose Advanced, Advanced Setup, IPv6, set the Internet Connection Type to Auto Config and apply. After the router restarts, factory reset one Decora Smart device with the 14-second hold, wait for the LED to flash green, then add it to the Matter hub with the pairing code from Device Settings in the My Leviton app.(Leviton: Orbi routers)

When to stop and contact support
Leviton’s pages give no support-contact step for a device that will not reset, so use the fallbacks the platforms give: Google says to contact the device manufacturer when setup cannot be completed in the manufacturer’s app, and to try a factory reset if it keeps failing; Apple’s checklist ends with resetting the accessory by its maker’s instructions.(Google: Matter devices; Apple: if you can’t add)
If the app cannot add the device after a reset
Apple’s checklist for a device the Home app cannot add: make sure the accessory is on and close to the router, unplug third-party bridges and home hubs and plug them back in, and if the app says the accessory is already added or was used in another home, reset it by its maker’s steps. If you cannot finish setup in Leviton’s app, Google says to contact the device manufacturer.(Apple: if you can’t add; Google: Matter devices)
